Located in Etterbeek, Brussels, The Arsenal is a landmark of industrial and military heritage. Born in 1901 as Arsenal du Charroi, it was a logistics hub—not a weapons depot—dedicated to maintaining and coordinating the army’s mobility, from horse-drawn wagons to motorized vehicles. Through the interwar years it expanded into Brussels’ central vehicle depot, organized around key buildings: the main halls (the Arsenal) for maintenance and storage, the boiler house (chaufferie) for energy, and the Maison du Bois for materials and equipment. Decommissioned in 1976, the complex was redeveloped in the late 1980s to preserve its rugged industrial character while giving it a new urban purpose. Today, its large volumes, high ceilings, and robust interiors retain their authentic identity while serving contemporary events and activities in a modern city setting.
